Chromalox Immersion Heaters Used In Temperature Control Units For Injection Presses

The Challenge
Accurate temperature control is a vital ingredient in plastic injection molding. Molding operations are often round the clock and any equipment breakdown or temperature shift can turn a plastic molder's profit into a loss.

The customer's temperature control unit is a self-contained device for heating or cooling water to maintain a constant temperature while circulating it continuously through the mold. Its major components are a modulating type cooling control valve, which regulates water input to the system, a vertical centrifugal pump, a thermostat and a liquid heating chamber. A fast, reliable heat source was needed, one that would give quick response to the thermostat changes.

The Solution
Mounted in the heating chamber is a Chromalox Immersion Heater, type MT-3. This heater was easy to install because the copper sheathed elements are brazed to a 2 1/2 inch copper screw plug. The thermostat senses the temperature of the water going to the mold and energizes the heater to maintain preset temperature. Response speed is all important to insure that mold temperature does not vary. Chromalox Immersion Heaters fill the requirements for a responsive, reliable, ruggedly constructed heater.

The dual zone temperature control unit, illustrated in enables the press operator to make very accurate temperature adjustments. Each section of the mold is controlled independently. This mobile unit is ready to operate when connected to mold, electricity, water, and drain.

  • Close control of temperature in each zone.
  • Low operating cost.
  • Maintenance-free operation.
  • No excess heat, fumes or moisture.
  • Assures constant peak operation.
  • Improves quality, eliminates rejects.
