Military and Marine applications Chromalox units are used as equipment for the nuclear reactors used on the US Navy ships and submarines. Along with many other ‘firsts’, Chromalox heaters were used on the world’s first nuclear powered submarine – the USS Nautilus in 1954. The USS Nautilus broke several records for submarines, including being the first watercraft to reach the north pole. Chromalox continues to supply products to the US military to this day.
