A premier global supplier of environmental test chambers to the scientific, industrial, and defense markets, must design equipment with the capability to perform testing in accordance with a wide variety of test standards, from Department of Defense Military Standards (MIL specs) to IEEE (institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) to ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials). Some of these standards specify that rapid humidity level changes in explicit thermal gradient situations must be measured as an indicator of product quality. The temperatures required for this testing can reach as high as 356°F (180°C) with relative humidity levels from 10 to 98%. For critical applications which must work “all the time, every time”, this testing is the benchmark by which their production is certified. In addition to bench scale environmental test chambers that hold product in a lab setting, this manufacturer also offers construction for much larger walk-in versions that are used in the field. The walk-in chambers have broader temperature and humidity requirements. In some instances, these models are used for conditioning exercises prior to product field use.
The heaters selected for this application had to have moisture and explosion resistant terminal enclosures to be suitable for a wide range of operating environments. End-seals were specified to protect against long term moisture ingress into the heating elements. Select grades of INCOLOY were used to ensure long sheath life. A wide variety of international voltage specifications were manufactured to meet design requirements for a global customer base. The Screw Plug Immersion heater from Chromalox was the perfect solution.
